CR Windows Achieves ‘A’ Rating First

19 December 2008

CR Windows, a window, door and conservatory fabricator based in Bristol, has become the first Eurocell customer to gain a British Fenestration Research Council (BFRC) ‘A’ rating on the Eurologik window system, using innovative new PVC-u Thermal Inserts.

This well known regional fabricator was looking to provide its customers with the option of an off-the-shelf ‘A’ rated window that offered exceptional value for money. The ‘A’ rating was achieved using a combination of Eurocell’s Eurologik system, along with its innovative new recycled Thermal Inserts. The inserts are manufactured using 100 per cent recycled PVC-u and can be used in sashes and transoms/mullions. They can be mitred and welded into the frame adding structural rigidity and ensuring a much more efficient and therefore lower cost fabrication process.

Mark Brown, Managing Director at CR Windows, explains: “All our customers are becoming more aware of their own carbon footprint with many of them now actively seeking energy rated products. Offering a cost effective ‘A’ rating will now allow them to address rising energy costs, as well as reducing their own carbon footprint.”

The fact that Thermal Inserts are made from 100 per cent recycled material makes CR Windows’ ‘A’ rated product one of the most sustainable PVC-u windows in the market. The multi-chambered design of the inserts creates additional benefits over other non-metallic, hybrid or recycled reinforcings by creating, what is essentially an eight chambered profile in such cases. This allows for a reduction in U values without having to change glazing specification along with up to 4 points more in Energy Index performance (1 point = 1 kwh/m²/year). This means windows that use thermal inserts lose less energy.

Mark Brown explains: “Being able to use Eurocell’s new Thermal Inserts on the ‘A’ rated window was a definite advantage as it enhances its overall sustainability and improves its thermal performance. Many of our local authority customers, as well as homeowners have already expressed an interest in this innovative new window.”

CR Windows, which uses the BFRC window energy rating scheme, now allows it to provide consumers with a straightforward method of comparing the energy efficiency of different windows using the A-G labelling system. This BFRC energy rating label is already recognized by the majority of consumers as it is used on white goods in the home.

Mark Brown continues: “We are really excited about what this means for our business and it could not have been achieved without Eurocell’s technical expertise and support. ‘A’ rated energy efficient windows are now within the reach of all our customers.”

‘A’ rated windows are highly recommended by the Energy Savings Trust as the most energy efficient option, leading to lower running costs and less adverse environmental impact. CR Windows now fix the energy rating label on the new windows, including those displayed in its showroom, which is proving a highly effective generator of sales enquiries.

Our role is to help fabricators gain a competitive edge in the market. Whether they require design, technical or sales support, we are fully committed to driving their businesses forward. By helping CR Windows develop their ‘A’ rated window we have created a market-leading product that should enable them to secure even more sales.
